A Day Out Playing Poker While Kayaking

In our modern hectic lives, we are all so focused towards our family and work commitments that we forget to take the time to play our favorite games. In my 30’s, when I was stressed out with my work and family responsibilities, my wife planned an outing to change my mood and outlook. I would say it was a great decision to go out on an outing with family. After all, taking out time from your busy life to play and laugh makes you feel better.

My wife was well aware of the fact that I love to play poker. So she decided that instead of playing in a casino or bar, why not play it in scenic areas. We started researching the ways we could play poker in an open environment. That’s when she gave the idea of combining poker with kayaking for a noble cause. I thought it was a wonderful idea! The next day we got tickets to Paddle Poker at Lagoon and I got to reading inflatable kayak reviews online.

During this unusual poker run, kayakers are supposed to reach the seven poker stops around the lagoon while drawing one playing card at each stop. Initially, the participants are given one card, and then they have to paddle around the bay to pick the extra cards at certain spots. Upon returning, if the player is unhappy with their hand, they may purchase different cards. It is not a race, and at the last stop, whoever has the winning poker hand wins the award. The objective of the game is to have the winning poker hand at the end of the paddle. By picking the junk along the way, participants can earn two cards at the maximum and make a donation at the end.

We were all geared up and excited for this unique way of playing poker and I had our oru bay kayak up and ready to go. We took our sunglasses, sunscreens, hats, water shoes, waterproof cameras, plenty of drinks and snacks. Each person was supposed to have a whistle and PFD in their boats at all times. There were paddlers of all types and experience levels. Kayaks and stand-up paddle boards paddled 4.25 miles to navigate the lagoon and the event had around 150 participants. The cost per paddler was $55, and a whistle and 20-liter dry bag were included in the price.

I found this way of playing poker much more interesting. Instead of staring at a screen for hours, you can play it in a pleasant surrounding. Your fortunes are very much related to your mood swings. Hence, if you are playing it with a free mind sailing around on the water, your chance of winning is very high. All your family members can actively participate in the event. In this way, you can spend quality time with your family too. The idea of combining these two activities together is fascinating and refreshing for those who want some adventure while playing poker.

Inspired by the magnitude of this event, I felt so refreshed and a playful and humorous side came out of me. After a whole day of enjoyment, what I learned was that playing together brings vitality, joy, and flexibility to relationships. It is a pleasant way to light up your creativity, imagination and emotional well-being. I thanked my wife for planning such a memorable outing.

Variations Of Texas Hold’em

Plenty of information has been displayed on this website about texas hold’em, but there are other variations of the regular game. You can make a choice on which one to play depending on what rules you prefer. You can play one over the other if you find it easier or you’re more successful at winning that particular version.

One of the variants is Royal hold’em, which is played pretty much the same, but the deck has only Aces, Kings, Queens, Jacks, and Tens. Another is Pineapple and ‘crazy pineapple’, which you can learn about by watching this Youtube video. Pineapple involves discarding before the flop and crazy pineapple is discarding after the flop. Omaha hold’em is also played the same as the regular version, but each player is dealt 4 cards, which they must use 2 of, along with 3 of the community cards to create their ideal hand.

There is also Double Texas Hold’em, where players are dealt 3 cards instead of 2, and must have a common card established to play with the other cards. However, the outer cards cannot be played with each other and each player is playing two hands of 2 cards at once. And lastly, there is Double-board hold’em, which is played with two sets of community cards.

The World Series Of Poker

The World Series of Poker (shortened to WSOP) is held annually in Las Vegas and dates back to 1970. It is a series of poker tournaments (most of them variants of Texas hold’em) that end with the winner receiving a WSOP bracelet and a multi-million cash prize. Antonio Esfandiari has earned the most prize money at over $21million, and Phil Hellmuth has won the most bracelets, at 14.

Professional poker players are not the only ones who have won braclets, including actress Jennifer Tilly among others, and there are events played for charities as well. This year’s WSOP will host 74 events that begin on May 30th, with some events lasting a day and some lasting several days. Buyins can start as small as $333 (which is played online), to $111,111 for a High Roller event. The whole event is being held at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and ends on July 18th. If you want to read more about it, visit www.wsop.com where you can find the whole schedule, get live updates, and even play some online poker.

Stu Ungar, Best Poker Player Of All Time

Stu Ungar, nicknamed ‘The Comeback Kid’, was considered by many to be the greatest Texas hold’em poker player of all time. He was the only person to have won 3 times at Amarillo Slim’s Super Bowl of Poker, earing him the second best poker title of that time, along with other achievements. He also played blackjack and gin rummy professionally.

When Stu was young, his father worked as a loan shark at a bar where people also gambled, exposing Stu to gambling early on. He started with gin rummy and won a gin tournament when he was 10 years old. He later became friends with, and was mentored by an organized crime figure, who also helped to protect him from other gamblers.

Because of his great gin playing, Stu earned a reputation for beating anyone who attempted to beat him. No one wanted to play him at gin, and the same held true when he started playing poker. He immediately started winning against professional poker players after moving to Las Vegas. Blackjack became another game he was an expert at with his card counting abilities, but was banned from playing it in casinos and other places.

Stu became addicted to cocaine after using it initially to stay sharp and alert at poker tables, from the advice of other players. Over the course of almost 20 years, the damage to his body was clearly noticeable and he could barely make it through the games, but he still won. Toward the end of his life, Stu was heavily into sports betting, while being more reclusive inside hotel rooms and smoking crack. In 1998, he was found dead in his room and despite having earned 30 million in his career, he had no assets left. A movie was made based on his life in 2003 and he was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2001.
